While the rest of Pensacola will begin turning in after a long day of Foo-Fooing, a troupe of entertainers who perform in their underwear will begin turning up the heat on stage at the Pensacola Little Theatre. The Skivvies’ tasteful leaders Nick Cearley (All Shook Up, Little Shop of Horrors), plays the ukulele, melodica, and guitar, while his mischievous curly-headed partner Lauren Molina (Rock of Ages, Sweeney Todd), sings along to electric cello and kalimba. The Skivvies strip with no tease, yet not ignoring their sex appeal so much as turn it into an offhand joke. While some of the songs they choose side on the obscene, the way they perform them comes off as ethereal, innocent, or even sexless. This is in part to the unlikely juxtapositions, like the pairing of Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” with the toddler favorite “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”. But it’s also their quirky instruments, delicate voices, impeccable physique, and wry sensibility that keep audiences laughing and awing over their unique talent.
Kickstarting the festival’s opening evenings at 9:30 PM, The Skivvies offer a late-night option more suitable for mature audiences. Their performances – truly a mixture of raw, unparalleled musical talent and an absolute adoration for the benefits of their workout regimen – are sure to be a fan favorite of Foo Foo. This event is brought to Foo Foo Festival by the Stamped LGBTQ Film Festival.
