Pensacola MESS Hall & Sunday’s Child UNITY Project and Courage Wall

Date Posted: Jul 19, 2018

Foo Foo Fest is excited to kick off the 2018 festivities with the Pensacola Math Engineering Science & Stuff (MESS) Hall’s event – Science on the Street, along with Sunday’s Child’s UNITY Project and Courage Wall – an interactive public art project to be built and on display at the downtown Pensacola Museum Plaza during the 2018 Foo Foo Festival celebration. Attendees will be delighted that both events will take place for the duration of the festival.

Science on the Street – November 1st – 12th

Step right up and discover the science of illusion at Science on the Street Illusion Garden. Available throughout the duration of the festival, attendees will explore the science of illusion at these exhibits. Check the schedule for special Sidewalk Science Sessions at the Illusion Garden, interactive presentations consisting of part magic and part science as participants engage and even create their own illusions.

Also, if you enjoy a good mystery, be sure to check out Pensacola MESS Hall’s Investigate! — Mystery Theater Night. Mark your calendars for Nov 8, at 5:30 pm where you will use your powers of observation to solve the mystery during this interactive theater experience.

UNITY Project and Courage Wall – November 1st – 12th

UNITY will be a larger-than-life structure that celebrates our cultural uniqueness and strengthens our ties to each other. The project consists of 32 posts, each with identifiers such as, “I’m a parent; I’m a Veteran; I speak English as a second language; I identify as LGBTQ,” etc. Participants tie colorful ribbons to posts that reflect their identities, with the ribbons eventually intertwined to create a web of interconnectedness. In the end, we see that we are all connected by something, and it’s our diversity that builds a strong and vibrant community. In addition to UNITY, the installation will include the “Courage Wall,” a larger-than-life chalkboard that repeatedly reads, “I wish I had the courage to…” and allows visitors to complete the sentence and share their own unique stories.

This public art gateway installation located in the heart of downtown Pensacola will aim to highlight the unique characteristics of citizens and the story of our city through a welcoming public artwork installation by promoting diversity and the collecting and sharing of the stories of all Pensacolians.
