Pensacola Opera: Maria de Buenos Aires

Date Posted: Oct 25, 2017

This may be the fourth year the Pensacola Opera has performed at the Foo Foo Festival, but this year’s production will be unlike any other.

Celebrating its 35th anniversary season, the Pensacola Opera will delight attendees with Maria de Buenos Aires. An opera unlike any other, this intriguing and engaging tango operetta combines electrifying music, mesmerizing song, and thrilling tango dancing to create a unique must-see event.

The opera focuses on Maria, a young woman drawn to Buenos Aires for its tango dancing who finds herself fighting for survival and freedom. And instead of the more classical style of opera, the full-scale performance centers around the unique beats of Astor Piazzolla, the father of Argentine tango, and features the ingenious poetry of Heracio Ferrer. To bring the exotic tango dancing to the stage, Pensacola Opera is also partnering with Ballet Pensacola for the production.

Adding to the excitement of the event is that this year it’s set in the Ashmore Auditorium at Pensacola State College. The smaller, more intimate venue allows attendees to feel up close and personal with the performers on stage, as well as check out a full view of the orchestra, which will also be on stage.

Tickets start at $25, and they are selling fast. For more information, visit www.pensacolaopera.com or call 850.433.6737.
